bananas ripeI don’t know how it is in your house, but for us, keeping bananas just right for eating is a balancing act.  We don’t like them too firm or green, and we don’t like them too brown and soft. Who knew about this little trick of wrapping the stem of the bananas to give us extra time to enjoy this great fruit just the way we like it?  See what you think.

Bananas, like many fruits, release ethylene gas naturally, which controls enzymatic browning and ripening of not just themselves, but other fruits nearby as well.  So, the message is, wrap up your banana stems, or, at least, keep your other fruit away to increase its shelf life.   I happen to like the way my fruit looks on the kitchen counter all together, so I plan to give wrapping idea a try.  You?  Have any of you tried this trick?  Let us know in the comments section below.

Then, all the years I wore contact lenses, I never had any tears when peeling onions.  That  has all changed now, so I welcomed this little hint for cutting them.
