Known commonly today as a superfood, the Chinese, Mongolian, and Tibetan peoples have been growing goji berries for an estimated 5,000 years. The Chinese hold a strong belief that the berry can significantly extend life. Goji berries are highly nutritive, containing beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, C, and linolic acid. These berries are said to “brighten the spirit,” and prolonged use promotes cheerfulness. They are a good eye food, helping with night blindness and blurred or poor vision. They have been used to treat anemia, asthma, bronchial inflammation, diabetes, pneumonia, tuberculosis, erectile dysfunction, vertigo, and weak knees and back. (Rawsome, by Brigitte Mars)
